A SHELTER FOR OUR REBELS

Almost 2 years ago we built a true no-kill shelter in the heart of our Detroit. We turned a blighted illegal dump site into a sanctuary for the abandoned and stray dogs of our city. So now we plea for your attention- to our solution for a problem so dire that it's hard to put to words.
Witnessing the stray and chained dog population in Detroit suffer is difficult and disheartening. Everyday we receive over a hundred calls and messages from people begging for us to assist a stray or owned dog- and the truth of the matter is that even though we save an enormous amount of dogs- we can’t even begin to help all the dogs who need us.
Rebel Dogs is a network of people WILLING and READY, CAPABLE and EAGER to catch, rehabilitate and rehome these dogs - so why don't we do MORE?
Because our shelter is ALWAYS FULL! It’s devastating but it's the hard truth. And the need doesn’t have any likelihood of lighting up in the foreseeable future.
The good news is that:
We own plenty of land for the much needed expansion. We have a wonderful group of committed staff and volunteers- and our plans are already underway:
What we need is for our community and followers to get this project rolling with one great push this Giving Tuesday!
It may seem like a tall feat- but we have done it before- and if anyone can do it again- it’s us!
Two years ago we asked for your help to build our shelter - a true no-kill in the heart of Detroit- and you came through!
With your help we built a 2 building shelter on 1.5 acres. This year we need your help for an expansion of our shelter- to help save even more lives.
Believe us- we are EXHAUSTED and would not start another building project unless it was a case of LIFE AND DEATH.
Here at Rebel Dogs, we do all we can, every day with the resources we have. With thousands of dollars in surgeries A WEEK, our operation sadly leaves no space for savings. Additionally, we receive absolutely no city or government funding, and therefore have to rely on individual donors in order to make this reality.
The expansion, as we plan it, will consist of 2 more pre-fabricated kennel buildings, like our current ones, but also a weatherized play-space located between the new buildings, allowing us to exercise our dogs safely in the winter.
We hope our daily updates on social media share some bits and pieces of the need for the work we do - but there is always so much more to do - and so many more to save.
We won’t give up on our mission for the abandoned and neglected dogs of our city. In fact, with your help- lets double down!
