Fostering Saves Lives!
Be a hero!
We continually need fosters to help us save the ABANDONED and abused dogs of detroit.
Thank you so much for wanting to foster! Fostering saves lives! We ALWAYS have dogs in need of foster homes.
A foster home is a temporary home where the dog can feel safe and loved, while expanding their indoor-living skills!
We mainly catch our dogs as strays, and they often have either medical or behavioral needs that you as a foster will have to manage. Our “child, cat, and dog friendly dogs who are potty trained and leash trained” are most times placed as foster-to-adopt. If you want a foster dog like this, please understand they are in high demand and few and far between. Moth dogs in need of foster care have either behavioral or medical needs. This can be anything from leash pulling or ear infections, to severe separation anxiety or end of life care. We try to find the best fit for the home, but it is very important not to ask too much of these very deserving creatures. Rest assured, we do not place dogs we haven’t assessed for behavioral needs, and we will always attempt to match the dog to a home that is well suited for their needs!
When fostering an adult dog for us, we do not require for you to come to all, or any, of our adoption events. We ask that you keep us posted on the health and behavior of the dog, and take them to required vet appointments, which can be scheduled at your convenience. Some dogs are also done with vet care by the time they are ready to go to a foster. We ask that you be available for scheduling meetings with interested potential adopters.
We provide initial and ongoing behavioral advice and support, in person and via email, based on need. We also provide all needed supplies needed, like food, medicine, toys, bones, leashes and collars, and crates.
Note - some dog relationships can take a long while to build. If you are comfortable keeping your dog and the foster dog entirely separate, temporarily, or during the extent of the foster period, we support that.
Communication is key - and we are ALWAYS accessible via text, phone and email. 24/7!
We do foster out puppies, but ONLY in these two scenarios:
1. You have significant dog experience, and want to foster a whole litter (4-12 puppies) from the age of 5 weeks, until they are all adopted at around 12 weeks.
2. You want to foster a puppy who survived Parvo-virus, or other transmittable sickness, as it gets discharged from the animal hospital.
Please fill out this form WHEN YOU ARE READY TO FOSTER. We have a high volume of inquiries daily, and although we would love to have you as a foster in three months time, it is unlikely we will find you in our archive then! Thank you again for your interest! FOSTERING SAVES LIVES!
