WHAT IS TRUE NO-KILL DOG RESCUE?

At Rebel Dogs Detroit, we are committed to saving dogs’ lives - not just cleaning up the streets. When we get called out to rescue we can never know the extent of the medical issues we are taking on - heartworm, bite wounds and pregnancy are common conditions, broken bones and embedded collars also happens frequently.

Many dogs who have been abandoned or abused suffer from a multitude of behavioral difficulties. Initially, we may need to wear bite proof gear and avoid all handling. Trust can often be built by experienced handlers after a long period of decompression in a safe space. As wounds heal and a life indoors appears less overwhelming, we offer treats or hand feed wet food for the slow-to-trust dogs.

Due to the cost and time needed to rehabilitate physical and psychological damage and neglect, these dogs are frequently turned away from other rescue facilities or euthanized at city shelters.

We don't euthanize due to undesirable behaviors, we instead experiment with safe handling and enrichment for dogs who are not yet adoptable.

As long as they have quality of life, we promise not to give up on them. This is true no kill.
